My stamp on the new pad...

by phoenix2k @ 30. Jul. 2007. - 08:42:47 pm

Ok... So, im in Coventry.. And so far its seeming scary how well I am settling in. I have made my stamp on the house today by buying a metal bin for the kitchen... I know it sounds a little bit of a silly-billyish thing to buy but it was the only thing that Andrew had not purchased and so I thought it would be a good idea. If I do say so myself, it is the most amazing bin in the whole wide world. Me and Jason took absolutely ages choosing it. Its all.. erm.. silver.. and flips up when you put your foot on the pedal.. and erm... Well.. *ooh look behind u, a three headed monkey!!*

I must admit that on Friday and Saturday, I was in a bit of a fowl mood. I think it was just the whole stress of work (bastards) and the move and party (Amazin!) etc but I am very surprised that by lunch time on Saturday, Andrew still wanted me to move in with him as I acted like an evil bitch troll from hell!!

The only inconvenience so far as been that I have had to change the ring tone on my phone due to it been exactly the same as Andrews door bell. Although it has been a pisser watching people running to the door everytime I get a message, it was less funny when Andrews poor mate ended up waiting at the door for 10 minutes due to Andrew thinking the door bell was my phone!

Jason has been to visit me since yesterday night and we had a really good day today shopping and investigating the city of Coventry. I bought lots of new stationery for my new job and on a recommendation from a guy I worked with at ANC, we visited the Catherdral. (Apparantly somewhere is only classed as a City, if it has a Cathedral.. I never knew that!) I was very surprised that having stepped on religous soil, I had not burst into flames, but made the best of the moment, gave a donation and lit a candle for my Nana Ivy. I sometimes wonder what it would be like if she were still alive... I just know that as I would have headed into my teens, she would have been amazing.., She was not the type of Gran that baked cakes and went to church every Sunday like my other nana.. She smoked like a trooper, she drank and she swore. I have a feeling that Id be quite close to her now. Just a random thought there.

The bin is lovely and looks lovely in the kitchen.. And it was SO worth the 25 mins deciding if to have a square one or an oval one hehe. Had an amazing day today just exploring. Think we covered Coventry 3 times over, walkin from 9ish til gone 4. The cathedral (think i spelt it wrong cus it looks bit funny) was gorgeous. I may have been talkin our of my anus-hole when i said the difference between a town and a city is a city has a cathedral.. I'm sure its right though. Bit of useless knowledge out of the jasey bonce. Anyway, i just want to mention the lady who greeted us as we walked in. She was SO lovely! Made me miss my nana. She's how my nan would have been if she wasnt poorly when she was alive. I'm gonna have to get a blog of my own to save me ranting on yours arent i lol.

If I were to step on church grounds I would surly burst into flames. Either that or the priest would run out and smack me over the head with the bible until I got off of the 'holy land'.

The bin sounds nice, much nicer than ours..it's just a white plastic thing.

ooh, do they still have 'the kiss' sculpture displayed in the ruins of the old coventry cathedral?

I noticed a few figures.. the Jesus one and the bishop one, but I cant say I noticed the kiss one. I loved how in the ruins of the old cathedral, it had "Forgive" at the back in big gold letters. It was lovely. :-D

I'd definitely burst into flames if I stepped on holy land. Or I'd hiss just off of it and recoil. Or something... Maybe I'd melt. I'd like to think I'd melt... Why? I have no clue. It just seems better than bursting into flames. Plus, this way, I'd leave a nice little puddle of evil at the entrance and it would leave a permanent stain and that would be my mark on this world.

Oh melting.. Id quite like to melt too.. Sounds less painful for some reason!

it probably would be less painful. I mean, sweltering heat and blisters or liquidising and just sliding off?

Coventry is gorgeous in places, a pit in others.

The Cathedral is nice. There's a real sense of history in the ruins of the old Cathedral. The new one feels a little too hastily put up for my liking.

You'll have to pop up to Brum and have a nose round there. Plenty of things to do here. You're also in striking distance to Stratford for theatre and quaint little shops. Leamington is also nice too.

I must admit it was strange seeing a newer looking cathedral compared to the traditional older ones that you usually see but I loved the way the stained glass was set out.. Although admittedly it didnt tell a story as stained glass in traditional churches usually does!

Ive visited Brum and Stratford a few times.. I was disapointed to find that the last time I went to Stratford, they had closed the teddy bear museum. (criminals..)

Luckily, Ive only seen the good side of Coventry so far, although I have seen some folk that look like they may originate from the bad part... Ill just keep living in this little bubble I think ;)

The Cathedral is a bit daring in not having a "story" to tell but I like that. Leaves space for contemplation.

They closed the Teddy Bear museum?! What?!!

If you ever want a guide to some of the fun stuff in Brum just shout..

that was touching - what you said about your grandmother. it's frustrating isn't it, not to know how a relationship would have turned out if you had got to keep that person around through the different stages of your development.
and isn't it strange how peaceful it can still be even when completely lacking in faith (i have feared spontaneous combustion when stepping into a church)to just sit in such an incredible building.

Every now and again I do get a thinking about stuff like that.. Thought that this would be the best place to blog about it. :-D
